The Olympic Cauldron burns bright once again to mark the 20th anniversary of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympics opening ceremony at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
The commemorative ceremony, held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, was led by president and CEO of the Salt Lake City-Utah Committee for the Games, Fraser Bullock. Other guest speakers included Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall, and four-time Olympic speed skater and chair of the Salt Lake City-Utah Committee for the Game, Catherine Raney-Norman.
The evening concluded with a lighting of the torch by two aspiring Olympians — Gabrielle Harris of Team Soldier Hollow Cross Country and Biathlon, and YiYi O’Brien, National Abilities Center Youth Adaptive Program athlete. The Olympic Cauldron, located at the plaza outside Rice-Eccles Stadium, will be lit until February 11, 2022.
